Rome, in Bite-Sized Pieces
Heading back to Rome for the fourth time... I don't know. Maybe you just can't get enough of Rome.
As an American who loves everything Italian, I've accepted that I may never have enough time—or money—to fully explore this city. Fortunately, Rome often serves as my landing point whenever I enter Italy, giving me another chance to fall in love with it all over again.
During our earlier visits, my daughter and I spent our days doing what Romans seem to do best: wandering. We roamed narrow streets, lingered in piazzas, and people-watched for hours.
Well, that's only partly true.
The reality is that when my daughter was younger, she had absolutely no interest in waiting in line under brutal sun and spending hours squeezed between thousands of tourists at the Sistine Chapel or the Colosseum. So I conveniently told myself that we were experiencing the "real Rome" by strolling through neighborhoods and soaking in the atmosphere.
And honestly? We were.
Even staying close to the city center, Rome is almost impossible to fully absorb in just a few days. Each visit felt like scratching the surface of a city layered with history, art, food, and endless stories.
Now that my daughter is 11, things have changed. She has the patience, curiosity, and background knowledge to appreciate some of Rome's greatest treasures. On this trip, we're finally ready to tackle the big sights: the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican highlights, and the Colosseum and Roman Forum.
Will we see everything? Not even close.
But that's the beauty of Rome. Every visit leaves you with a list of things to come back for.
And trust me, there will be a fifth trip.
In future posts, I'll share our favorite restaurants, gelato shops, and the little discoveries that made us fall in love with Rome yet again. 🇮🇹🍦✨
